Fishing Report – arriving 1st October 2019
Experiencing mixed autumnal weather Terry Keard participated in his last fishing session for this season and found the Catfish feeding actively. Starting with five days on Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) produced 26 x Cats to 38lbs 8ozs, including 18 x 30’s and 6 x 20’s with a total weight of 796lbs 8ozs noting the average Catfish weight was 30lbs 8ozs.
Terry then fished a further mostly rainy five days on Lake 1 (Carp) and finished with 35 x Carp, including 26 x Commons to 16lbs 2ozs and 22 x doubles plus 9 x Mirrors to 18lbs 5ozs and 5 x doubles.

2019 Leader Board Winner Results

2019 Results for Manor Fishery PIN Awards
Each year we award every angler with a PIN to commemorate catching their first Manor Fisheries specimen fish for each species shown below noting this year success was confined only to Catfish.
The growth of the Catfish this past year has seen many PINS awarded for 40lbs+ and we are delighted to announce the 16 x 2019 “Pin” award winners as follows:
The 1,000 lbs Club
Many of our regulars will recognise that there are times during the summer when the Cats become ravenous resulting in large total single session weights of Cats being recorded. This year was an exception, and particularly during May, June and July when day and night catches were significantly lower than usual – see the 2019 Catfish Report below. As a result there were no new members of the 1,000 lbs Club this year but you may be interested in recalling past winners:
Special mention is made of the following three anglers who have twice landed over 1,000lbs in a single session:
Bill Phillips with 1,350lbs during May 2011 and 1,063lbs during August 2017
Reg Miller with 1,592lbs during June 2016 and 1,071lbs during June 2017
Steve Hyder with 1,387lbs during July 2015 and 1,187lbs during June 2018
2019 Catfish Report
As mentioned earlier, Cat fishing was challenging this year throughout May, June and July when both day and night Catfish catches were significantly lower than expected. It can be seen from the picture below that the regular annual removal of small Cats has resulted in a further 33% increase in 40lbs+ Cats caught this year. Nevertheless the overall May through July catches this season plummeted by a disappointing 37% seasonal (6-months) decrease in Cats caught weighing over 30lbs.
The three main factors that have contributed to disappointing May, June and July Catfish catches include:
Unsettled weather from May to July that was relatively dry with long periods of high pressure.
Occasional excessive ground baiting.
The appearance of many Carp typically ranging from 1lb to 3lbs plus numerous small Rudd.
There is little we can do to control (1) but the Rule change banning Spods and ground baiting Spoons should help to address (2) and reduce the introduction of unnecessary and excess bait. Next month we will report on completed actions associated with (3) and the removal of surplus Carp, Rudd and Catfish.

2020 Leader Board
The Leader Board competition will again run throughout our 2020 Season and commence on Saturday 21st March 2020. Prizes will be awarded for the following specimens caught by or on Sunday 11th October 2020:
£50.00 for the first verified 50lbs+ Catfish
£50.00 for the first verified 30lbs+ Carp
£50.00 for the first verified 8lbs+ Tench
In the event these “Target weights” are not met, the above prizes will be awarded for the heaviest verified Carp, Catfish and Tench specimens recorded in the Cabin Log Book by or on Sunday 11th October 2020.
All Members have now agreed to record their catches in the Cabin Log Book (see the Member application conditions). Recording Cats weighing over 30lbs and Carp over 20lbs forms the basis of our Monthly News Report and provides valuable input to our lake management plans.
