COVID-19
From Thursday 5th November 2020 HMG introduced Lockdown-2 which we all hope ends positively and does not drag on for too long. While currently now in Tier 4, we await further news, and the current Angling Trust summary is shown below. Keep well and keep safe.
Past 5-years Specimen Lakes 1 and 2 Summary
Last month, the October Newsletter included a detailed summary of the number of Carp weighing 20lbs or more and the number of Catfish weighing 30lbs or more being caught as recorded by anglers in the Cabin logbook. The information covering the past 5 years may also help to identify the most productive months for catching Manor Fisheries Carp and Catfish.
2020 Interest in Angling Growth
Over the past year the general consensus is interest and participation in angling has increased significantly and this may be due to the knock-on effect of Lockdown and COVID-19. Unfortunately, to accommodate this growth it is probable that some Fisheries will become even more over-crowded during 2021.
For our 2021 season we welcome confirming we will continue to be “Never knowingly over crowded”. Last May our website experienced a surge in Page Views after coming out of Lockdown as can be seen in the table below. Displayed is a summary of the Manor Fisheries 2020 website traffic that seems to support a growth interest in angling. Compared with 2019, the number of 2020 annual Visitors and Unique Visitors have increased by 49% and 25% overall respectively and especially from May onwards with the most popular content being:
Home Tab – 32,500 page views
Availability Tab – 11, 335 page views
Reservations Tab – 7, 963 page views
Increasing Lake 2 Break Offs
Due to the Cats becoming heavier and stronger, the number of break offs has markedly increased and even when using lines stronger than the minimum 20lbs breaking strain required. It will be well worth while replacing your line for the 2021 season. An abrasion resistant monofilament is recommended and a brand you may wish to consider is Berkley Trilene Mono XL which is also sensibly priced:
A growing number of Cats have also been lost due to the straightening of poor-quality hooks. Hooks for Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) should be barbless and forged (not wire or Cat hooks). A strong hook with a larger eye than most brands (good for making hair rigs); that is competitively priced, can be sourced from Wicked Rigs (Hand Made in the UK). This is an eBay seller (kevash123uk) and their eBay ID is: 192301880534
Comments and Feedback
You are a valued visitor, and we welcome receiving any feedback you may wish to give with respect to the accommodation, fishing, or facilities at the lakes. Please send us your comments via https://www.manor-fisheries.co.uk/comments-feedback.
Fishery Maintenance
Maintenance Summary
The fishery has closed for the winter but there is on-going maintenance required before reopening on Saturday 13th March 2021:
This month a further 500 Kg of high quality fish feed arrived and daily fish feeding for all the lakes continues
Lake Management
Due to COVID-19, a further netting session with the help of Hadlow College and set for the 7th December; has unfortunately been cancelled when the plan was to focus on Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) and remove surplus Cats. This session is being rearranged for 2021.
Grounds, Lakes, Apartments and Cabin Maintenance
The Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) ski slope swim has been upgraded. All the upgraded swims contain concrete and the use of a rod pod is ideal. Although the use of bank sticks is still fine, when fishing near to the water’s edge please avoid damage through banging into the concrete which will also scare the fish away from your swim. Alternatively, you can locate your rods (and bank sticks) further back from the water’s edge to completely avoid the concrete.
2021 Awards and Competitions
2021 - PIN Awards
Every angler is awarded a PIN when meeting the qualifying weight to commemorate catching their first Manor Fisheries specimen fish and for each species shown below:
