Increasing Lake 2 Break Offs

Due to the Cats being heavy and strong, break offs can be experienced and even when using lines stronger than the minimum 20lbs breaking strain required. It will be well worth while replacing your line for the 2022 season. An abrasion resistant monofilament is recommended and a brand you may wish to consider is Berkley Trilene Mono XL which is also sensibly priced:

Berkley Trilene Mono XL

  • Breaking Strain – 25lbs

  • Colour – Clear

  • Length – 270 yards

  • Diameter – 0.40 mm

  • Typical Price - £12.90 plus P & P

Berkley Trilene Mono XL

  • Breaking Strain – 30lbs

  • Colour – Clear

  • Length – 250 yards

  • Diameter – 0.45 mm

  • Typical Price - £8.47 plus P & P

A growing number of Cats have also been lost due to the straightening of poor-quality hooks. Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) hooks should be barbless and forged (not wire or Cat hooks). A strong hook with a larger eye than most brands, that eases tying a knotless knot, can be sourced from Wicked Rigs (Hand Made in the UK).

These hooks are competitively priced and Wicked Rigs is an eBay seller (kevash123uk). The eBay ID is: 19230188053

Fishing Report – 1st July 2021 to 31st July 2021

Introduction

This month the movement and activity of the fish has been normal but due to weather conditions catches have proven to be a little “Slower” than usual for this time of year.

Fishing Report – 1st June 2021 to 30th June 2021

Introduction

This month has proven “Difficult” – first with Carp spawning heavily on the 2/3 June and again later in the month. In addition, major thunderstorms around 18th and 19th of the month caused a sudden drop in oxygen levels resulting in fish kill and the loss of some large Cats.

To provide recovery of the specimen lakes a decision was made on the 20th to close Lake 1 (Carp) for the remainder of June and Lake 2 (Carp/Catfish) for the remainder of June plus July or longer if necessary to allow investigations to be completed and the lakes to settle. This is of course disappointing for prospective visitors whose plans are changed and we are very sorry that this has happened.

Summary

Based on logbook entries notable landings to mid-month include 4 x 20lbs plus Carp to 23lbs 8ozs and 14 x 40lbs plus Catfish to 44lbs 7ozs. We are delighted to indicate many new PB’s were set and several PINS were awarded to commemorate catching a first Manor Fisheries specimen fish.

 Of special note we congratulate:

  • Paul Teakle landing 16 x Cats in 24-hours weighing 468lbs 8ozs including 6 x 40’s overnight.

  • Bernie Day landing a 23lbs 8ozs Common on the 4th June and on the 5th June Louie Divall landed a 20lbs 8ozs Mirror and a 21lbs 8ozs Common

  • Jack Vandongen on the 7th June caught Carp, Tench, Bream, Perch and Rudd including a 6lbs 8ozs Bream and a 4lbs 8ozs Tench and Gary Edwards landed 10 x Carp to 12lbs and Bream to 6lbs.

  • Regular Eric Scott returned on 8th June and using luncheon meat landed a Cat weighing 44lbs 8ozs.

Fishing Report – 1st May 2021 to 31st May 2021

Introduction

Many thanks to Nick Bodiam and Kelvin Collins who arrived at 7am on Sunday 2nd May to witness that a Goose had been left entangled in a large quantity of discarded monofilament line. They thoughtfully then began their session with a successful rescue. It is totally unacceptable for an angler to ignore discarded line and it reasonable that Manor Fisheries (or another angler) is informed if assistance is needed to recover waste line.  Although the Goose has survived the selfishness of the offending angler unfortunately leaves a stain on Angling.

And mentioning rubbish, it is not acceptable to leave it behind! It was positive that dog-ends together with left-over food and assorted rubbish was placed in a plastic bag but leaving the bag in the Cabin with used tea bags where visitors eat is nasty and selfish.

Summary

Catches have improved this month, with notable landings that include 10 x 20lbs plus Carp to 25lbs and 24 x 40lbs plus Catfish (an all time monthly record) to 46lbs. We are delighted to indicate many new PB’s were set and several PINS were awarded to commemorate catching a first Manor Fisheries specimen fish.

Of special note we congratulate:

  • Nick Bodiam who landed a 22lbs Common after first rescuing an entangled goose.

  • Paul Teakle landing 12 x Cats to 45lbs 12ozs in 24-hours
